Exhibition by Visual Artists of the Latin Catholic Community

On 10th November 2018 an Exhibition of 14 Visual Artists of the Latin Community took place at the Municipal Cultural Centre Panos Solomonides in Limassol. The exhibition was organized by the Representative of the Latin Community at the House of Representatives, Mrs. Antonella Mantovani and Limassol Municipality. The inauguration was officiated by the Mayor of Limassol, Mr. Nicos Nicolaides. Mrs. Mantovani in her opening speech mentioned the basic goals of the visual arts exhibition: •On the one hand to highlight the active presence and the dynamic role of the Latin Catholic Community in modern Cypriot society. •And at the same time to provide artists belonging to the Latin Catholic Community with an opportunity to present their work. The inauguration was attended by the Presidential Commissioner Mr. Photiou, Mr Efthimiou on behalf of the Minister of Education and Culture, Member of the House of Representatives Mr Diplaros , the Assistant Chief of Cyrus Police Mr. Kousioumis and Mr Mike Smith, Chief Officer Sovereign Base Areas, members of the Latin Community & friends.

Travel back in time at the newly inaugurated Permanent Exhibition of the Latin Catholic Community at the Centre of Visual Arts & Research (CVAR) in Nicosia.

The Permanent Exhibition of the Latin Community at the Centre of Visual Arts & Research (CVAR) in Nicosia was inaugurated last Wednesday 20th June 2018 The Exhibition takes the viewer back in time to the second half of the 19th Century when Latin Catholics of European descent had a strong presence in Cyprus.

The exhibition presents elements of the European culture which they brought with them – not only in architecture, dress and furniture – but also the European Consulates, the development of trade and new professions the establishment of schools and the teaching of foreign languages. The Exhibition also includes artefacts donated by the Latin Catholic Church.

The aim of the exhibition is to increase awareness of the Latin Community and its contribution to Cyprus society in a museum which is known for promoting the common cultural heritage of all Cypriots and their peaceful coexistence.

The following public figures attended the inauguration: Presidential Commissioner Mr Photos Photiou on behalf of H.E. the President of the Republic, The Gender Equality Commissioner, H.E. The Ambassadors of Italy, USA, Poland, Austria and Ireland, the UNDP Programme Manager and the Director of Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education & Culture.

“The Latin Centre” – new venue for cultural events and the promotion of the Latin Catholic Community of Cyprus.

On Thursday 12 October 2017, the President of the Republic of Cyprus Mr. Nicos Anastasiades inaugurated “The Latin Centre” in Nicosia. The Latin Catholic Community of Cyprus has contributed to the cultural life of Cyprus throughout its history and now “The Latin Centre” offers an additional opportunity to Latin painters, authors, poets, historians and others, to showcase their work. “The Latin Centre” will host exhibitions and cultural events to promote the visibility of the Latin Catholic Community on the island as well as events by its charities and associations. “The Latin Centre” will act as an open invitation to the Cyprus public to get to know the Latin Catholic Community of Cyprus and will promote its unique identity. The inauguration was also attended by the President of the House of Representatives, the Minister of Education and Culture, Ambassadors, Members of Parliament, the Presidential Commissioner, Representative from the Chief of Police, the Nicosia District Administrative Officer and members of the Latin Community of Cyprus.
